Sunday 5/11/08

Sorry its been a couple of days since Sunday and I haven’t posted until today, it’s been a crazy week. Sunday we started a 2 part series by Voddie Bauchum entitled, Legacy. He spoke on how we often take scripture out of context and only apply it to our situation, when often times God was speaking to a certain people. God is a multi generational God, and we need to be a people who have a multi generational outlook on our lives.

Music wise, today was a pretty easy day. No opener or closer this week. The set looked like this:

All Because of Jesus by Steve Fee

Everlasting God by Brenton Brown

Glory in the Highest by Chris Tomlin

Our band was a 5 piece, but a very talented one I thought (in my humble opinion). We had Reuben Bidez leading us in worship, Mike Fogleman on electric, Trey Roth on keys, John Barry on bass and myself on drums.

During rehearsal one of Mike’s tubes blew on his old Fender Bassman head, which posed an interesting scenario. Luckily Trey’s wife was able to bring another amp to replace in time for the 2nd service. At the 9:30, Reuben had to just play acoustic and was nice enough to let Mike use his amp.

What obstacles did you face this week?

Sunday 5/4/08

This past Sunday we finished up part 2 of a 2 part series called Exposed. Part 2 is definitely the more serious part of the series, dealing with Pornography in todays culture. Had to ask the children to leave again this week. This Sunday was also a very busy day at Southside, as we also had Family Birthday Celebration, which celebrates baptisms.  What a great service.

In the morning we had one of the best bands we have ever had, in my humble opinion.   Mitchell McGhee lead us in worship.  Joining him in the band was Mike Folgeman and Jason Hoard on electric guitar, Heath Baltzigler on bass guitar,  Brandon Coker on drums, and Joy Honeycutt and Reuben Bidez singing some bgv’s.  It’s always such a privilege when you have  great musicianship and leadership on stage leading worship.  And these guys hearts are amazing too.

Todays set looked like this:

Opener - See His Love by Jesus Culture

Pure Glory by Christy Nockels

Lift High by Steve Fee and Eddie Kirkland

Grace Will Be My Song by Steve Fee

For our Family Birthday Celebration, our band looked a little different.  We had Reuben Bidez leading worship with Mike Fogleman on electric guitar, Jeff Box on keys, John Barry on bass guitar, and Brian Weaver on drums.

We get a little more time at these special services to do a little more music, so today for FBC we did:

The Time is Now by Steve Fee

Happy Day by Tim Hughes

Jesus Paid it All by Elvina Mabel Hall, John Thomas Grape, Alex Nifong

All Because of Jesus by Steve Fee

Celebration by Kool and the Gang

What song did you do this past week?

Sunday 4/27/08

Today we started part 1 of Exposed, a 2 week series dealing with the issues of lust and sexual addiction. After part 1, we can tell this is gonna be a powerful series for our church. And it’s always fun when you can say to your congregation, “this message is rated PG-13, so you might want to take your kids to upstreet”.

Needless to say, this series presented a tough question of whether we do an opener/closer or not, or just stick with worship tunes. We debated this quite a bit in the SPD meeting, but in the end we decided this series calls for a good bit of worship.

Today the ever talented Mitchell McGhee lead worship for us. Mitchell has such a heart for the people he is leading in worship, and does an amazing job of leading them to the throne room whenever he is here at Southside. He also road manages for FEE.

Today’s set list looked like this:

We Shine by Steve Fee

The Time Has Come by Hillsong United (no intro)

Lift High by Steve Fee and Eddie Kirkland

Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) by Chris Tomlin

We used We Shine as a quasi opener since it was the first time we had done this song on Sunday morning. During the first service we assumed people would stand up for it since it is a very upbeat song, but we assumed wrong. So that left the whole set for the 1st service feeling a bit awkward. In the 2nd service Mitchell invited them to stand with us and learn the song, and it’s amazing what that will do for the energy of a service.

Joining Mitchell today in the band were Joey Agee, Reuben Bidez, Trey Roth, John Barry and me.
